The Benefits of Joining oSTEM

1. Fun and Valuable LGBTQ-focused Meetings & Socials

On Mondays at 7:30PM in PETR 119, expect the following:

  • Academic workshop events from out queer faculty and Career Center directors

    • Welcome socials
    • Monthly brunch socials, hosted every first Sunday, free food is provided to the first 40 members during the Fall and Spring semesters at 11:30AM

Meeting information is always distributed over our email and Discord at the start of each week!

2. Discord

Discord is how we communicate with our oSTEM members through weekly announcements about our socials and other LGBTQ events happening that are being hosted by other LGBTQ orgs. We have separated our Discord into:

  • Meeting Announcements
  • Social Affairs (intros, chatting, daily-games, queer-book-club, Minecraft, board-games, dnd, and oSTEM National Conference news)
  • Professional Affairs (Professional opportunities, and tips and advice)
  • Academic Affairs (details about the queer book club, research/school advice)
  • Voice Channels (to get to socialize with any other online oSTEM members)

3. Expenses paid National Conferences

Every year, we send as many of our members as we can to the National oSTEM Conference, the O4U Conferences in September, and the Lesbians Who Tech Conference in June. These conferences are incredible opportunities to network and meet other queer people with jobs! They want to hire you and all you have to do is show up with a resumé, professional attire, and your best attitude! Admittance, flights, accommodations, and all travel expenses are funded with as much money as we can offer and partially paid for by the oSTEM National Organization, and Texas A&M University!
